Spun off from my book The "12 O'Clock High" Logbook, the article "A Tribute to World War II Airmen" appears in the April 2006 issue of Military Heritage Magazine.
If you're interested in a brief behind-the-scenes introduction to the making of the 1949 movie, check out the article. It's also a good taste of what you'll read about in the book, which has just about everything you can think of packed into 400 pages. Roy Morris, Jr., editor of Military Heritage, oversaw the article. A grateful tip of the hat to aviation writer Jim Farmer, who wrote the first in-depth examination of "12 O'Clock High" back in the 1970s. That article served as inspiration for me in putting together the Logbook with my writing partner Paul Matheis. Jim's initial research into the film has inspired a lot of us "12 O'Clock High" researchers and writers over the years.
